Why your Google Ads account won't connect
If Google signs you in but your Google Ads account won't connect — or doesn't appear in the list at all — it's nearly always the wrong Google account or the wrong access level, and both are quick to fix.
Why this happens
Google only shares ad accounts that the signed-in Google account has admin or standard access to. If your browser was already signed into a different Google account, or your access is read-only, the connection either fails or returns an empty list with a message like "You do not have access to this account."
Who this affects
- Anyone connecting Google (Search, Display, Shopping, YouTube) for the first time
- Anyone managing several Google accounts in one browser
- Agencies whose client accounts sit under a Manager Account
Fastest fix
Sign out of every Google account, then reconnect with the right one.
- Open google.com in a new tab and sign out of all Google accounts.
- Return to your settings page and start the Google connection again.
- Sign in with the single Google account that has admin or standard access to the Google Ads account.
- Approve every permission Google requests, then select your Google Ads account from the list.
This resolves the majority of Google connection failures, because the browser was silently authorizing a different account than you expected.
Other causes and fixes
- Your Google account lacks the right access level: Read-only and email-only access can't be used. Ask a Google Ads admin to grant your email admin or standard access, then reconnect.
- The account sits under a Manager Account (MCC): You must select the child account that runs the campaigns, not the manager account. Manager accounts hold no campaigns of their own and will not connect as an ad account.
- The Google Ads account was never fully set up: An account created but never finished — no billing details and no campaign — sits in a pending state and can't be connected. Finish setup in Google Ads by adding billing information, then try again.
- The account is suspended or cancelled: Suspended accounts for policy or payment reasons, and cancelled accounts, are not connectable. Resolve the issue with Google first — ad spend and billing are handled by Google directly.
- You connected the wrong account and now it's stuck: Disconnect Google from your settings page, sign out of all Google accounts, and reconnect from a clean state.
If nothing works
Gather this before you reach out:
- The 10-digit Google Ads customer ID
- The Google account email you signed in with
- Your access level as shown in Google Ads under account access settings
- Whether the account sits under a Manager Account, and that manager's ID
- The exact wording of any error message you saw
Then contact support through your settings page with those details.
