Why your ad is stuck in review, and how long it takes

If your ad shows "In Review" and hasn't started delivering, it's waiting on the ad platform's own review — and in most cases it clears on its own.

Why this happens

Every ad you publish is submitted to the ad platform (Meta, Google, TikTok, and the rest) for a policy review before it can deliver. That review happens entirely on the ad platform's side, not here.

The status in your campaign list is simply the status the ad platform reports back. Most reviews finish within 24 hours. Some are faster, some take longer.

Who this affects

Anyone publishing a new ad, and anyone editing an ad that was already approved — edits go back through review too.

It applies to every connected ad platform, though the wording differs slightly: "In Review", "Pending review", "Under review".

Fastest fix

If the ad has been in review for less than 24 hours, there is nothing to fix and nothing to do.

  1. Leave the ad alone.
  2. Check back 24 hours after the time you published.

Editing or republishing during this window restarts the review clock, so waiting really is the faster option.

Other causes and fixes

  • The ad touches a sensitive category: Health, finance, politics, housing, employment, or credit content gets routed to a human reviewer, which typically adds a day or more. There's nothing to fix — just expect longer.
  • The ad account is new: Accounts with no delivery history get closer scrutiny on their first ads. This eases once you have a few approved campaigns behind you.
  • The ad was edited during review: Each edit restarts review from the beginning. Make all your changes in one pass, then publish once.
  • The landing page is slow or unreachable: Reviewers and Meta's crawler load your destination URL. If it times out, sits behind a login, or returns an error, review stalls. Open the URL in a private browser window and confirm it loads quickly.
  • You submitted a lot of ads at once: Publishing many ads or variations in one go queues them. They clear in batches rather than all together.

What to do at the 48-hour mark

  1. Open the ad platform's own account view — Meta's Account Quality, or the policy view in Google Ads — and look for a flag or policy notice on the ad.
  2. If there's a flag, fix the flagged element and republish.
  3. If there's no flag and the ad is still pending after 48 hours, it's worth escalating.

If nothing works

Gather this before you contact support through your settings page:

  • The campaign name and the ad name
  • The date and time you published, plus any times you edited the ad afterwards
  • The exact status text shown, word for word
  • Which ad platform the ad runs on
