Request access to a client's Facebook Business Manager

To run Meta ads on behalf of a client, you need access to their Facebook Business Manager — specifically their ad account, Facebook page, and (if using conversion tracking) their Meta Pixel. This article explains how to request that access, what the client needs to do, and how Linkbridge simplifies this for upgraded agency accounts.

What access you need

To create and manage Meta campaigns for a client through our app you need the following access in Meta's Business Manager:

  • Ad account access — to create and run paid campaigns on their behalf
  • Facebook page access — to connect the page to campaigns (required for most Meta ad types)
  • Instagram account access — if running Instagram ads
  • Meta Pixel access — if tracking website conversions or building website audiences

Standard access request flow (manual)

The standard way to request access is through Meta Business Manager. Send your client a checklist of what they need to do — they must complete these steps from their own Business Manager account:

  1. Client goes to business.facebook.com and opens their Business Settings.
  2. Under Users → Partners, they click Add and enter your agency's Business Manager ID (you can find your BM ID in your own Business Settings).
  3. They select which assets to share with your agency: the ad account, Facebook page, Instagram account, and Pixel.
  4. They set the appropriate permission level for each asset — for the ad account, they should grant Manage campaigns at minimum.
  5. Once they confirm, the assets appear in your Business Manager and you can connect them to the client's workspace in the app.

Send clients a pre-written checklist. Most clients are unfamiliar with Business Manager and will struggle without step-by-step instructions. Prepare a short guide with screenshots and your BM ID pre-filled so they can complete the process without back-and-forth.

Linkbridge (for upgraded agency accounts)

If your agency account has access to Linkbridge, the access request process is handled automatically — no manual steps required from the client beyond a single authorisation click. Linkbridge generates a link you send to your client; when they click it and approve, access is granted to all required assets at once.

Linkbridge is available on upgraded agency plans. If you're not sure whether it's available on your plan, check under Brands → Agency → Linkbridge or contact support.

Common issues

My client completed the steps but I still don't have access

Check that they shared the correct assets — ad account, page, and Pixel. Sometimes clients share the page but not the ad account, or vice versa. Ask them to go back to Business Settings → Partners → your agency name and confirm all assets are listed.

My client doesn't have a Business Manager

Some smaller clients run ads directly from their personal Facebook profile or a basic page without a Business Manager. In this case, they'll need to create a Meta Business Manager account first at business.facebook.com, then move their page and ad account into it before they can grant partner access.

The client's ad account shows as restricted or disabled

Access to a restricted or disabled ad account won't resolve the restriction — the client needs to resolve any violations in their own Meta account. Direct them to the Account Quality section in their Business Manager for details on what caused the restriction and how to appeal.
